Moving to Utah, but where?

So, I have accepted a Federal government job in Salt Lake City, which will bring me back to Utah come January time frame. I would like some input from the locals on where to move since I last lived in Utah in 2002. I am looking for a reasonable commuter distance by car (20 Minutes or less) or by Front Runner (40 minutes or less). Of course I would like good schools, safe neighborhoods, and reasonably affordable housing for a family of seven (4Bd, 2 Bath, at least 2,400 sq. feet with a basement less than $350,000). I have been leaning towards Davis County or Lehi. Any helpful advice or opinions that might help me focus my efforts would be greatly appreciated.

Elder ABYUFAN serves in the Utah Salt Lake mission. That does nothing to help with your housing search but I hadn't said that on this board yet, so I thought that I'd throw it out there. And hopefully you get a house in that mission because it certainly is in your "close commute" criteria.

Out of curiosity, does the job have relo benefits? I have an interview in SLC this week so I may be in the same boat as you (but hopefully a different house!) and should I get it was thinking of posting a similar question here!

None on this job. I have to move on my own. Most Gov't agencies pay relocation, but this one did not. It is not as well funded as other Agencies. Good luck on your interview.

I definitely recommend Northern Utah County. I'm partial to Eagle Mountain or Saratoga Springs. You'll get more home for your buck than anywhere in Salt Lake County but your commute will be a little longer, say 30 min depending on where the job is located. Plus you'll have easier access to the Cougar Corner offices for games.

Hawk are you trying to corner the market for CougarCorner?

Eagle Mtn is likely 40 min away, Lehi 30. You will get a bigger, newer house for less money the farther west you go from Lehi away from the freeway.

My niece lives in Eagle Mountain area ... LOVES it. Her husband didn't mind the commute to SLC for work.

Plus it makes you closer to Cougar Corner Den for game watch parties. This should be an important consideration as well.

Look in Murray. It's got some real advantages. The Trax/FrontRunner station is at 5300 S and a drive downtown at rush hour is only about 20 minutes.
The schools are small-ish by Utah standards. Our elementary never saw class sizes >22 the whole time our kids were there. Utah Co, Riverton, Herriman will routinely have 35+.
Housing prices are a bit higher than Utah Co, but with all the commercial property lining State St and the booming Fashion Place Mall, etc. the city isn't constantly whining about money.
And we can use more Cougar fans in the area!
