I too liked the "Harry Bosh" books by Michael Connelly; I also like the Alex Delaware novels by Jonathan Kellerman.

My oldest is 11 and I like reading his books so we have some things in common and I absolutely love the series of unfortunate events. And the guy who illustrates for those books is a BYU alum, and it is mentioned in the credits of every book.

I'm thinking of writing some parody novels to that one British Wizard kid and calling them "Jerry Spotter and the Magician's Rock" "Jerry Spotter and the Room of Mysteries" etc. If I do end up writing them, you should read those!

Just so you know, if you haven't heard already, they are making Song of Ice and Fire into an HBO series.

It's a good series, but I think it tries too hard to be gritty and real and falls under the Wheel of Time in terms of epic fantasy. Still worth reading though if you're not offended by things that are offending.

I just finished reading The Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. They are kind of teeny-bopper type books, but fascinating reads. They are about a post apocolyptic america split into 13 districts with one capital. Prior to the books timeline, the 13 districts tried to revold against the capital but failed. Their punishment for revolting is an annual event where a 12-18 year old boy and a 12-18 year old girl from each of the remaining districts are entered into the hunger games, where, the last person surviving wins.

My wife really enjoys those books, she had me read The Hunger Games and it was pretty good. I haven't yet read Catching Fire though.

I consumed Stephen King's The Dark Tower series in a couple months back in 2005. You probably need to already like Stephen King, but I found them very good.

Anyone read his new one "Under the Dome" or whatever it's called?

His "State of Fear" should be required high school reading!

It's funny, but I read a collection of his short stories a few years ago. Since then, I think 3 of them have been made into movies (including "The Mist" and the one about the haunted hotel room).
