Re: Terry Nashif out at BYU
Sorry. He was told there was no promotion in his future at BYU when UVU expressed interest and he went to talk to Rose about it. Call it a "constructive" ouster.EM_Puma wrote:What? Pope wasn't "outed".snoscythe wrote:including ousting Mark Pope to make it happen) worked out:

Re: Terry Nashif out at BYU
I think this board has a poor understanding of the word ousted. Rose didn't do it to key role players from last year (when we sorely needed them off the bench, and instead had to go get Steven Beo et al). Pope wasn't "ousted" from BYU either. Neither was Rice. They took job opportunities elsewhere when one wasn't available in the here and now or immediate future. And good for them! And good for the UVU players that went to get starters minutes! I wish they all would have stayed, but that didn't happen.
I've never been a huge fan of Nashif. Maybe this move is to pave the way for Rice to come back and be the heir apparent at BYU?

Re: Terry Nashif out at BYU
Dave Rice is the assistant coach at the University of WA, a Pac 12 school. I don't see him leaving that to be the assistant coach at BYU, an average WCC school. I highly doubt we ever see Rice at BYU again.
Between the roster carousel and the coaching carousel, it's been a rollercoaster at BYU.
Nashiff leaving is probably a good thing as some new blood is needed. I'm going to take his word for it that he left on his own accord. Guy had offers to coach elsewhere and turned them down. If BYU wanted to show him the door and he still wanted to coach he would have lined up a new coaching gig not pursue business opportunities.
Who get is the main question now. I hope Rose pursues a defensive genius. That's what's needed.

There is a difference between being an assistant coach (one of many on staff) and THE assistant head coach.Gunk wrote:Dave Rice is the assistant coach at the University of WA, a Pac 12 school. It kind of makes me laugh to read all the criticisms of our undisciplined offense and then everyone whines when the architect of that offense leaves.

We all knew change was coming. In my opinion this is a good thing, unless the new coach doesn't improve anything. Of course if we don't improve next year, especially if Mika comes back then we are going to see a massive change in coaching IMO.

I don't see a lot of whining on here about him leaving. I'm fine with it.frdbtr wrote:It kind of makes me laugh to read all the criticisms of our undisciplined offense and then everyone whines when the architect of that offense leaves.

People seem happy that Nashif is gone. Some seem ready for Lewis, Lacomb, and/or Rose to be gone too. Rice and Pope are missed though (but I'm not sure either would equal Rose as head coach at BYU).

Re: Terry Nashif out at BYU
Well since Rice was a miserable failure at UNLV I wouldn't want him to replace Rose. Pope hasn't done such a bang up job at UVU either so I wouldn't want him to replace Rose. I'm not ready to see Rose go. Of course if Mika returns and BYU doesn't make it to the NCAA tourney and win a game or 2, I just may start getting on the replace Rose bandwagon.Mars wrote:People seem happy that Nashif is gone. Re: Terry Nashif out at BYU
I remember verifying with Holmoe several years ago that the HC of BYU BB and FB would be an individual affiliated with the LDS Church. Now whether that is a written policy, or just a guideline, I don't know, but that would currently exclude Rice from being HC at BYU.Brayden Green wrote:Maybe this move is to pave the way for Rice to come back and be the heir apparent at BYU?
It was at the same time I contacted Chris Peterson and asked him if he were LDS. He actually responded and said that he was not, but appreciated that BYU fans thought so highly of him to include his name in individuals who we would like at BYU.
