Utah just didn't want to be there.

The first night in the NIT always seems to be full of upsets. The better-seeded teams tend to be those who had higher aspirations for their season and aren't necessarily thrilled to be in the consolation tournament. The underdogs are generally teams who are just stoked to have something left to win and nothing left to lose.

Then the second night teams see the results and the better-seeded teams on night two actually come to play.

Funny, Ole Miss fans won the award for the "fans that didn't want to be there", but the Rebels won in front of their 1,672 fans. I'm sure there weren't too many fans that came down to Oxford from Monmouth, Illinois (located in the top half of the state).

I'm guessing that with the late game we'll have at least 6K paid attendance. I just wish I didn't work the next day.

The Monmouth Hawks are from Long Branch, NJ. Great school. Had several friends go there. Their first ever NCAA bid came on a buzzer-beating, half-court shot where the shooter was fouled and the Hawks down three. He went to the FT line, with 0.1 seconds on the clock, made the FT and they won by 1. Two of my best friends stormed the court after that - I saw them on the ESPN broadcast, it was awesome.

Their other claim to fame is the Monmouth College admin building was used as Daddy Warbucks' home in the 1981(?) version of "Annie."

Ole Miss won on the road. They were the 5 seed.
