Vs St Mary's

Post by Qman »

Basically we were out executed this game. They took away most of our offensive strengths and when we took away Landale they just pivoted to an efficient drive and kick game.

That isn't to say we didn't play hard or as well as we could. But they knew that Childs isn't a 3 pt threat or much of threat from mid range so they sagged in. Basically they only played Haws and Emery straight up on D. Everyone else they helped off of. It was a smart game plan.

In the 2nd half we tried to force the issue defensively and they buried us with open 3's.

Individually, Mika and Haws managed to get their games going some. But nothing was easy.

Emery was erased from this game offensively and we didn't have enough weapons to keep up.

Oh and I think Mika's legs are shot. His free throws are short far too often.

They played Bryant for the drive and had defenders with enough size he couldn't bully them to the hoop.

Childs scored some off the attention Mika and Haws got but it wasn't enough.

Our bench gave us basically nothing. We really missed Kyle Davis in a slow down half court game like this one.

I was disappointed that Beo wasn't more aggressive in looking for scoring opportunities.

I couldn't help but think Mika looks exhausted out there and he's not nearly the player he was at the start of the season. Just too many minutes and not enough capable backups.

I mean, it's never a good sign when you're air balling free throws.

I know we're down two injured players, but bench production has been horrid lately. It seems that Mika has been playing more minutes due to staying out of foul trouble and the already mentioned lack of bench production. That and just coming off a mission is probably getting to him. Where has Emery's offense gone this season? He stepped up his defense considerably, but he has lost just as much in offense...

6 points over three games is worse than horrid.

I don't know what it is either. But horrid just doesn't seem strong enough for how poorly our bench has failed to step up.

Well, we do have one of the three games coming up that we looked at and saved a roster-spot for Kaufusi.

Those three games:
Gonzaga
@ Gonzaga
Gonzaga in Vegas

So, yeah, that investment is paying some nice dividends.
