I agree. For me, one of the fun things about college basketball is if you want to understand the NCAA tournament selection process the information is out there. Unfortunately, I think the media does a horrible job of educating the fans and themselves apparently, and there is a lot of misunderstanding out there among the casual fans.

None of which sound like a team that it would be acceptable to not only lose to, but to get thoroughly beaten by.

We shouldn't have lost to them. Now what? This kind of thing is unfortunate when it happens to your team, but happens way more often in basketball than in football. All sports are different. One thing I like about basketball is that what really matters in the end is where the teams end up after a season of development. It's not like football where one loss means your season is pointless and over. But some people probably like that better and that's their choice.

I agree. BYU's players didn't take UVU seriously and it bit them. They have played more focused and better since. We can all be bitter and give up on this team and want to fire the coach because of 1 loss or we can put it all into perspective and let it go. As far as UVSC goes, it will always be that to me because that is what it was called when I was there.

Once again you've accidentally referred to the team that thoroughly beat us as UVSC.

No I didn't, I referred to your correction of me and why I used it.

the structure of college football is completely different and a lot of our fans I think look at basketball from that mindset.

Let's just say a football team is stuck with a lot of inexperienced, but talented players who mess up early in the season and lose a game or two you would think they shouldn't. With the way college football works, especially for an independent, not having everyone perfectly performing from the get-go = SEASON OVER! But then within that obviously you would also have fans who are going to realize it's a work in progress and good things can still happen in future seasons. But that is football.

What football-centric fans may not be thinking through is that in basketball that prospect of better things in the future can actually still happen in the same season. And that's where we are now. It's still too early to try to prove the case that the season is done and we all should be depressed. In football whether you're a pessimist or an optimist you're still stuck with the reality either way that the current season isn't really all that salvageable beyond just going to a minor bowl game.

Maybe the UVU was the wakeup call to the team. They seem to have turned in around since then.
