Wow...only 1 game to the east (vs Illinois @ the United Center - Chicago) and no OOC road games. Just 8 home games and 5 neutral games (13 OOC).

Doesn't appear to be that strong on the surface, although I think some of the teams on there are supposed to be improved over last year. USC is thought to be a top 25 level team this season. Colorado is supposed to be pretty good. Illinois, Alabama should be a little better. Valpo is well coached and should be pretty good again.

BYU is going to be better with Mika back and Dastrup together adding some additional depth, talent and size to the frontcourt that we haven't had in years. Childs is getting rave reviews by those watching the players scrimmage together. Davis is also back. With a big like Mika playing with him he will be more effective than last year. I think our bigs as a unit will be very noticeably better, and I don't think our guards, especially with the late addition of LJ Rose, the addition of TJ, Emery back even better than last year because of the full off-season to get ready, along with Bryant being eligible we won't lose a step on that side. I think this team will be really good and will surprise anyone who hasn't been paying very close attention.

I hope so. The team obviously lost some very talented players, as they did the year before (which made the team worse that time, and may again this time).

This blogger isn't writing as a BYU fan but seems to have done a lot more research than your typical non-BYU connected writer because he knows who is coming off of missions and how they were rated coming out of HS. I really do think many of us are going to be surprised.

Gonzaga not a surprise. St. Mary's gets everyone back from a team that won a lot of games last year. They've gotten a lot of positive pre-season press.

He is on a mission. He'd know that if he were a BYU fan. But what I think is interesting is how he knows about players like MIka and the others and how good they were coming out of HS.

This is a good schedule for a fairly young team, but it's going to hurt the RPI. IIRC, in the RPI formula home games count for less than neutral games which count for less than road games.

Something like a home win is counted as .75 wins, a neutral win is 1 win and a road win is 1.25 wins. So BYU is going to have a fairly middling RPI this year, even with a good record.

But the schedule could help the team gain confidence going into conference play and into next year and the years after.
