It kind of telling that Coach Rose felt fairly comfortable with who he has that can play the 3, other wise I think he would have maybe went after Jared Stutzman who is around 6' 6". Instead Jake's scholarship went to Steven Beo 6' 3" 175 a combo guard.
IMO, there is a very good chance that we will see 3 guards start: TJ Haws 6' 4" 175, Nick Emery 6' 2" 175, and Elijah Bryant 6' 5" 210. Then BYU will have the option to go small or big from there on at the 3. Could bring in either Jordan Chatman 6' 5" 195 (small) or Jakob Hartsock 6' 8" 205 and or Yoeli Childs 6' 8" 225 (big) depending on who the other team plays at the 3.

Did Childs play on the perimeter in High School? Or do we have another reason to believe that he has that sort of athletic ability?

LMGTFY ;)

He has the athleticism on defense, the range and mid-range on offense. He has expressed interest in trying it so that he can get on the court sooner and play more minutes.

Thanks for posting the videos. He does look like an athletic, strong power forward. But my concern is that he wouldn't be able to get under or over screens. Or stay in front of a guard 1 on 1. Though he appears to be quicker than Hartsock. Maybe we will just play zone if he is playing the 3.

No problem. He is fun to watch! As far as his defense, it will be much better than anything that Haws ever gave us on the perimeter, from day one. I think Yoeli should try and stay light and work on footwork and guard skills. He could be a starter for us at the 3 for 2-3 years (assuming he doesn't go pro) and then slide down when Seljaas gets back if he gets back in game shape. If not, he plays a 3rd while we RS Seljaas and slides down when Mika graduates (or earlier if he goes pro early).

He likely won't do much as a Malik Rose type power forward in the NBA. He would be a lot more served to go the "Draymond Green" stretch 4 type role in the NBA, which requires a lot of shooting skills, passing skills, dribbling skills (unless the game is on the line), etc.

He has legit NBA talent at the 4, just finds himself lacking at only 6-6 as a true banger (though he has athleticism and length). I just think that if you are Rose you try to put the 5 most talented guys on the court and make teams adjust, and that is Emery, Haws, Childs, Dastrup, and Mika. That lineup could make serious noise. If Childs could play the 3 there are literally no weaknesses in this lineup. STRONG frontcourt, STRONG backcourt, able to play a quick tempo, can rebound and shoot the lights out of the gym, and run anyone out of the gym that they play on a nightly basis.

Jake Toolson goes down as a recruiting miss for me, as he came to BYU and didn't pan out as planned. Which of the guys below (with scholarships) will be added to that list as well?

Jordan Chatman
Alan Hamson
Jakob Hartsock
Braiden Shaw
Jamal Aytes
Elijah Bryant
Davin Guinn
Corbin Kaufusi

Kaufusi was recruited to BYU as a football player and joined the basketball team as a walkon. Only after a year did he get a basketball scholarship. Now he wants to play both sports and his scholarship goes back to football and one opens up again this year for basketball. How is that a recruiting miss?

He's not good at basketball and BYU would have been better off bringing in a 6'10" juco transfer.

BYU's done that and fared much worse than Kaufusi.

If Kaufusi wants to stick around, I think he's worth his spot on the bench.
