Stength of the rest of the MWC
Wyoming lost tonight by 3 to Monmouth. SDSU lost to Pacific. Utah is losing to Illinois. So far this season it looks like UNLV and NM will be the only competition.

Go Monmouth Hawks!!! I grew up in New Jersey on the shore about 10 miles from Monmouth. I had four close friends in high school graduate from Monmouth. Some fun facts about Monmouth. Two buildings on campus (including the administrative building) were used as Daddy Warbucks' house in the Annie. Jon Bon Jovi was given an honorary doctorate of humanities from Monmouth in 2001. Miles Austin (Dallas Cowboy WR) went to Monmouth.

Re: Stength of the rest of the MWC
These early losses by SDSU are sad and hurt BYU, because SDSU has as much pure basketball talent as anyone in this conference; the issue is chemistry and coaching.
Steve Fisher has not proven to be a very good head coach and he's thrown a bunch of top recruits together and let them grossy mismanage games they should win.
By the time we play them, they may get it together (which is scary) but it'll be too late for them to piece together a decent resume' for the dance. Beating SDSU will be no small task, yet we won't benefit much from the wins now.
However, all the SDSU fans that were so irate about BYU being picked 1st in the conference need to focus their ire on their coaching staff now.

Clearly the SDSU boosters aren't paying enough. Fisher did much better when the university boosters paid out big money to Fisher's players.

Well Utah pulled it out against Illinois. What a Jekyl and Hyde team. They have some of the worst losses in the league and now the best win.

I question whether people who think this have actually watched UNLV and New Mexico play this year. Their talent level is obvious. This is looking like a three-team race for UNLV, BYU and New Mexico and my guess is San Diego State will make a late-season push like they always seem to do. The conference winner will probably have 3-4 conference losses and the winner will be the team that defends their home-court the best.
