The Pride Cycle
Freaking strikes again.
A few minutes into the second half and it's
Weber St - 54
BYU - 53
The same Weber St. that is in the Big Sky, and is 1-3 against nobodies.
WTH!?
Is this how BYU responds to their murdering of Southern? Have they gotten so full of themselves from that ONE victory that now they come out at home and struggle against Weber State?
This stupid pride and arrogance thing is getting all too common in BYU sports.

Realizing that might have to give it their heart and soul, BYU finally turns things around. Thank goodness.

Re: The Pride Cycle
When a team like Weber State tries to run with BYU, they're eating out of our hands.
Our depth is tremendous, and while WSU's starters legs are turning to rubber, our starters come off the bench fresh and just dominate the end of the 2nd half.
This had nothing to do with pride; it had to do with the fact that Weber State played well for a stretch and we had a shaky 12 minutes... it'll happen.
I don't think we'll go into the half with a lead all year and lose a game.
Guys like Noah Hartsock, Brandon Davies, Charles Abouo, Lamont Morgan, Michael Loyd would start for most MWC teams; we're fortunate to have them on our bench. It simply wears out teams that don't have similar depth.

I just hope the shaky first half isn't an omen.

The entire half wasn't shaky, we did have a 12 point lead early. In basketball, teams will go on runs, even bad teams. Weber State had a decent run, but in the end the result was exactly what it should have been.Italics wrote:I just hope the shaky first half isn't an omen.

Well, I'm just glad we won.
Now if Boise loses tonight and then we beat the Utards tomorrow... oh glory glory hallelujah!

Re: The Pride Cycle
We won by about 17 or so pulling it out in the end. Weber played well shooting a high percentage. Weber is not a bad team. Maybe they lack the depth.

Weber was also hitting a tremendous amount of outside (and I mean WAY outside) threes, I doubt they get that hot every game. Glad that the Cougs can still get a good win when the other team is playing their best.

Re: The Pride Cycle
I was quite pleased with the game. It made the Cougars work. They had several games where they weren't challenged. Finally someone came to play and the Cougars responded. It did take a few minutes to reestablish the proper order in the game, but we did and then cruised to victory. No one panicked (aside from a few ill-advised turnovers by Loyd) and the team simply and calmly went about their business.
One concern I did see was our inability to grab some rebounds. Granted, Weber crashed the boards hard, but BYU must get better on the defensive glass. On the season, opponents have grabbed 67 offensive boards off of 176 missed shots (.381). It's currently the area we struggle most at, IMO.
