Rose Already Signing JCs

Postby Gunk » Tue Mar 05, 2013 1:57 pm

Rose just added a new JC recruit for next year - Skyler Halford (6'1" guard; 17.5 pts/game).

While I'm a fan of getting a JC or two to fill a hole or two we don't seem to be having much luck with our recent crop of JC transfers.

Didn't Ambrosino (bust) come from SLCC? Delgado (Weber) has been a disappointment as well. Perhaps Halford will buck the trend. Could Halford be the 2 we're looking for or perhaps a backup for Carlino.

This kid can supposedly handle the ball very well and defend like a mad man. Read some info on him at TBS. There's a rumor on CB that TJ Haws may try to graduate early and play next year before heading out on a mission. He'd have to really bulk up. Is TJ big/tall enough to play the 3 next year??

If Sharp the four, then yes, TJ the three. However, put TJ at two and Tyler at three.

That would be some kind of rumor, not to mention near unprecedented at BYU, if TJ were to graduate one year early and then enroll to play. Maybe that is where the other scholie would go.

BYU Independent Study offers High School as well as college courses. My son took a couple of English classes there and then skipped his senior year of high school. My niece home schooled and enrolled at BYU a year early. It is possible - but only if he is already a little ahead of pace. A motivated kid could finish two high school courses in 3 months or less in summer. He could knock out one or two courses between now and then.

I hear that this kid may be the next Craig Cusick!!

Me ==> :sulk:

Honestly, it seems like lazy recruiting. Rose does great with HS kids, and terrible with JCs. Delgado? Ambrosino? Does this kid really bring anything that the Utahn Toolson doesn't? Maybe this makes more sense if Carlino really does transfer (though I don't believe that rumor).

Transient as Carlino has been - I guess anything could happen. He would be nuts to do it. Think Ryan Cuff. A little over impressed with himself. Left BYU to sit on the bench at ASU because he thought Roger Reid favored his sons over Cuff. Then he left ASU for PT at Weber State whete he did well against that level of competition.

Carlino left Indiana at the alter - went to UCLA and did not mesh with his teammates came to BYU - pouts a little about getting benched - not time to transfer - time to grow up.

Maybe he could benefit from attending your leadership school. ;-)

All I know is Rose is 0 - 3 when it comes to JC transfers (Rogers, Ambrosino, Delgado - am I missing any?).

Rogers looked to be panning out. IMO he just needed some more consistent playing time.

Delgado is/was supposed to be a "lock down" defender, but Cusick did a better job of locking opponents down. Same with Winder.

Ambrosino was supposed to be a 3 point shooter extraordinaire, but averages under 6 min a game and shot barely over 33% from the arc. Haws (38%), who is billed as an "okay" 3 point shooter shot better than Ambrosino. And, Carlino, who had a horrific season from behind the line shot just under Ambrosino at 30%.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
