Houston to MWC
According to the local news in Lubbock. But why would that keep BYU from going indy?
Having to share pathetic mountain money with 3 more teams, still only getting half of our games on a real tv network. BYUs situation hardly seems improved. I guess home games against fresno and reno are real national attention grabbers? Also any more word on the Texas, I figured since independence requires more work BYU decided to allow 2 for 1's, but if we stay in conference keep winning I think BYU is "too good" to do 2 for 1s. If we aren't we'll be in SLC twice in 3 years.

Re: Houston to MWC
My guess is that if the MWC changes significantly enough that they will be able to walk away from the old contract and negotiate a new deal with any network. The MWC would have lost 1 team and gained 4 others. At that point they scrap the deal and get a new deal with unequal payouts or one that dumps the mtn and allows schools to sell the rights to the extra games.

Holmoe has said there is only a handful of teams in the country that he'd accepta 2 for 1 deal. Obviously Texas is one of them.

Re: Houston to MWC
This is what I think might happen:
-BYU will be allowed to pursue its own tv deal for its home games, which it will do with espn as a partner
-ESPN will also have our road games
-That leaves 4 games on the mtn/cbscs/vs.
-All our other sports will be on the mtn/cbscs/vs., with some limited exceptions
-BYU will retain rebroadcast rights
-We're going to get almost 4 x's the amount of coin from espn that we get under the mtn. contract

Re: Houston to MWC
This would also give the MWC 12 teams, which means you can create two even divisions and have a championship game. What would you do with an 11 team conference?

Re: Houston to MWC
CBSSports called Hair and asked about this and he said he has had no contact with Houston. So either he lied, or this story is bogus.

Re: Houston to MWC
I think that he has thought about it and it has been discussed but that Houston hasn't been formally invited. I would expect Thompson to show more of the ingenuity he showed with ruining the BYU WAC deal in creating a good deal for the MWC. He obviously doesn't like or respect BYU that much but he is proving that he knows how to at least keep the conference together. A lot better than the WAC's commissioner(I think his name is Benson?) who has failed twice in his career to keep teams in the WAC instead of leaving for the MWC. the WAC commisioner's (Benson?) one redeeming quality is that he will do anything BYU wants.
