I deleted this post because it's pointless to keep repeating myself. 88Coug, See Below for my answer to your assertions.

What is this, a masters thesis?

If that's what you want to call it, then yes. I guess I just appreciate it when people who are trying to make a point, or an assertion, can back it up with references. It adds credibility to their positions. Is it unfair of me to expect this?

88Coug wrote: The source of the addition revenue is the exit fees for Nebraska and CU, which at one point were going exclusively to the Big Three (at least until Tech raised a big stink and Texas backed off, claiming it never wanted the extra money)...Maybe when you have been around a little longer, you will remember that greed is not good and that filthy lucre is filthy for a reason.
Here 88Coug, this is in response to your comment and link above. I found another source to support my previous stance.
The liquidated damages expected to come in from the departed schools, Nebraska and Colorado, was never part of the plan...Perkins said he couldn't say what that number was, although it has been reported as $20 million. University of Texas president Bill Powers said Tuesday he did not expect to accept any money from the five schools.

Perkins — who repeatedly said he prefers to refer to the Nebraska-Colorado money as "liquidating damages" rather than penalty money, or other such pejorative terminology — said the liquidating damages might not ever be dispersed to the Big 12 schools anyway.http://cjonline.com/sports/basketball/2 ... ig_12_deal
Please reference me to where you found that Tech made a big stink, and Texas backed off because of it.

In regards to the "filthy lucre" comment. The overriding theme that I keep hearing is that Texas is/ was greedy, and that's why Nebraska looked to leave, and left, resulting in the choas that followed. BTW, I'm still waiting for Mars' answer to my question above in regards to that.

Here's my beef with the "greedy Texas" thing. You guys say that Texas is greedy, without any reference, to give credibility to your assumptions. Does it make me angry because supposedly I'm a Texas alum, as Mars has accused me of, based on my position? No. I get aggravated by the fact that you can't state specifically why Texas is at fault for this, with the references to back it up, which leaves the impression that you just think they're greedy soley because they're wealthy. I despise, and find niave, the growing mentality in our society that if your wealthier than someone else, it must be because you're greedy, and won't share your profits.

That being said, Mars and others in this discussion have stated they dont support socialism, fine. But isn't that a propagandist tool of socialism, the idea that the wealthy are wealthy solely because they're greedy, and they won't share, thus enslaving everyone else to their desires?

The point I've been trying to make the entire time, backed up with references, is that the Big 12 revenue plan is incentive based. How? It awards the teams who make the most appearences on TV, by giving them a greater share of the revenue.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3409420
http://www.blackshoediaries.com/2010/5/ ... l-not-ruin.
In essence, its what they've earned. How do they earn it? By winning. Anyone of those teams could make the money that Texas makes, if they would win as Texas has. If winning makes Texas greedy, then I want BYU to be greedy as well.

You're entitled to your opinion as to whether or not you think that that's fair. But the Big 12 revenue plan is no different than the traditional values that we abide by. The idea is that if we work, we get paid. If we work really hard and excel, we get paid more. I don't think that that's unfair, or greedy, at all.

This has been fun guys, but by virtue of the fact that I' will likely be repeating myself once again if I continue to carry on in this discussion, I'm done with this debate. Adios!

True capitalism is the only vehicle to true happiness and independence, but the thing you fail to see Grad, is that there is Capitalism (love it) and "BP type capitalism" with cronies and all. You are kidding yourself if you think that sports anywhere are a model for capitolism. So, while I agree with the content of your argument, and certainly the "Atlas Shrugged" reasons behind it, I can't get behind your defense of the big 12 or sports in general as the forum to display what society should be. When you add ESPN and huge other conflicts of interests, negotiations, etc. you open up another can of worms.

The truth is, that Texas/OU/Florida/pre-corrupt/sanctioned USC will never lose, because the primetime sports won't let them lose. They are "too big to fail," if you will... They have Godlike SOS schedules, which can never be proven because they never play anyone worth 2 hoots OOC. A true market would be closer to a playoff system rather than the BCS crony good ol' boy setup we have now. So, you are arguing the right thing, about the wrong subject, and you get an A for effort from me.

As noted above by BlueIsBetter, there are two types of capitalism. What we see today (and is unfortunately a normal form for capitalism) is the predatory form, wherein cronies exercise political and economic power to leverage themselves into positions where they can leach of the backs of society. UT is a prime example of getting success this way (as is Baylor, BTW). Read some Thorstein Veblen rather than Rand. We effectively live in a word where digging a pit for your neighbor is seen as a good thing (by too many LDS members as well, who have bought the Gospel of Wealth hook, line, and sinker). Maybe one day you will find a way to reconcile your BYU heritage, religion, and your employment. It just might take a while.

As to Texas, defend them all you want. Articles appear around Big 12 territory almost every day about the many problems with the conference. Read them or not, believe them or not. But Texas is a big bully and the Big 12 will self-destruct.....

I wanna comment, but I have no idea what is being said. All this gibberish is making me even more confused. :gross:

All I know is... It's time to get my BYU on and kick some Utard trash! :munch:
I really dislike some of my ward members right now.
They think they're all bad cause they were invited to the most liberal/athiest conference in the nation.
Enjoy your mediocrity frUtes.

I know my comments had nothing to do with the topic at hand, but I had to add something.

Probably the best comment yet in this discussion. Thanks for the laugh Bigcougsfan.

As far as 88Coug's and Blueisbetter's statements, I can appreciate your comments as well. Even though we disagree on some points, all is well in Happy Valley, and that's all that matters.

And the whole time, Texas is sitting in Austin with his head in his hands wondering just how Nebraska left him. Sure, she said she wasn't going to accept the abuse anymore. She said it many, many times. But Texas never thought she'd actually pack her bags and leave him for real. He works hard and brings home a big paycheck, she should forgive him for slapping her around and treating her like she doesn't matter, right?

Grad: "Prove to me with a link that Texas is abusive. Or that it's located in Austin. Or that it was once in a conference with Nebraska."
