Two days to signing day, and we don't have staff yet
This is a problem. Kids are being asked to make their decisions on Wednesday, but here we sit on Monday and we still only have one confirmed coach on the offensive side of the ball, and that guy (who is also building the staff) is coaching LSU's offensive line for the Citrus Bowl currently.
We've had two offensive kids "decommit" just in the last 8 hours, and I don't blame them one bit when the guy recruiting them can't even guarantee he'll be at BYU by this time tomorrow.
Get the staff DONE.

FWIW I'd rather have the right staff coaching the wrong kids than have the wrong staff coaching the right kids... I'm not bothered by the time it takes as long as we get it done right

Hence, the long and winding road to rebuild BYU football. It's going to require fan patience in the foreseeable future. No quick fixes.snoscythe wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2017 5:34 pm This is a problem. Maybe this early signing period is not a good idea. Maybe it should be after the bowl games. Too much going on right now.

Also add Joshua Oglesby (2*, also has offer from Montana State)Ddawg wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2017 9:59 pm BYU has had 9 ballers de-commit for 2018.
1.Brandon Kaho (committed to Washington)
2. Zadock Dinkelmann (recruited by Detmer, offers from UTSA, Louisiana-Monroe)
3. Cam Latu (committed to Alabama)
4. Tyler Manoa (top 4 Cal, UCLA, Arizona, Utah)
5. Jaren Kump (committed to Utah)
6. Sekope Lutu Latu (2*, 247 currently lists only 1 offer from BYU)
7. Allan Mwata (2*, committed to San Diego State)
8. Tevita Fotu (committed to Utah)
9. Mika Tafua (committed to Utah)
It sucks to lose some of these guys like Kaho (4*), but if we are swapping 2* guys for whoever takes their place, that's nothing to lose sleep over. And I always wonder how much of the attrition is due to academics. They will never come out and say so, but you don't want guys to put themselves in a spot where they are going to struggle more than the average student.

Kaho was the "prize" of 2018. A true 4* with big impact. His de-commit stings.

Re: Two days to signing day, and we don't have staff yet
Kaho and Latu hurt. But they signed with Washington and Alabama - top-10 contenders. That would have been a feat to land them, even without the 4-9 black eye.
Fotu, Kump, Tafua, and Manoa are solid 3-star players, but in positions where we're not really hurting: TE, OL, and DL. We are set at these positions for 2-3 years and have other 3-star OL, DL, and TE that are still part of the 2018 class.
Dinkelmann's other FBS offers are UTSA and Louisana-Monroe. We replaced him with Connor - a QB with a completely different skill set - who had similar FBS offers (Nevada, Arkansas St., UNLV).
Mwata is a 2-star DB. Offers from SDSU, Florida Atlantic and UNLV. Plenty of those on BYU's roster.
Lutu Latu is a 2-star TE. No other FBS offers. Plenty of those on BYU's roster.
Oglesby is a 2-star RB. No other FBS offers. Again, plenty of those on BYU's roster.
Plenty of time before signing day to add some quality recruits in needed positions. Sky isn't falling yet.

Plenty of time before signing day, but by that you mean the late signing day, not the early signing day, which is tomorrow.

Correct. I think we see a different dynamic this year. Schools and recruits will know who signed early and will be able to adjust strategies based on needs and playing time.
