Re: Report: Grimes New OC
Next question is who will be his staff? Here is one guess:
QB Peterson or Ty
WR ARod
RB Fesi Sitake
OL Empey
TE Clark
That might be one too many coaches. So what do you do? Drop a QB coach? Add TE to WR or OL?

Re: Report: Grimes New OC
I suspect your are probably correct on all counts. BYU definitely needs to get rid of the WR coach and the RB coach is fine for now as most of the offenses problem was the bad O-line and bad WR play.

Re: Report: Grimes New OC
Who I would like to see as the coaches based on the current situation.
QB Ty
WR/TE Chad Lewis
RB Reno Mahe?
OL Grimes
More than likely it will be pretty much the same as before with Ty as QB coach and Grimes as OC and O-line coach and the rest as they were before as BYU vary rarely cleans house.

Re: Report: Grimes New OC
I would rather have Ty Detmer on staff at either RB or WR coach than either Mahe or Cahoon.

Does Chad Lewis have legit coaching experience. With WR being one of our weakest spots, we can't afford to fail on the coach for that position.TheDean wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 2:36 pmWho I would like to see as the coaches based on the current situation.

Schools are allowed an additional coach next season, so BYU could add a QB Coach without firing anyone.

First off why get rid of Clark, he has done nothing that warrants him losing his job.
Second, I don't understand why people say the Oline play this year was bad. The only game they played really bad was against UMass. They have been the only group that had been consistent throughout the whole year.

Re: Report: Grimes New OC
Grimes should hire the best he can get at each position. I can't imagine he would have come without being given free reign on his assistants. He might keep Clark at TE but I'd imagine anyone else staying would be a long shot (Empey would be the only other one to maybe get a shot). Which is great.
You guys who already have people picked out are nuts. I'm really hoping Grimes picks a guy from FCS or D2 who has called plays as a co-coordinator and succeeded. He can pick anyone and you guys have Roderick, Fesi and Petersen. I hope we end up with two LDS guys on the offensive staff - Clark and one other.

Re: Report: Grimes New OC
The possibility of Grimes intrigued me. Seeing it come to be is interesting. I'm very interested to see who he keeps and who he lets go. His experience is wide and varied, the list of coaches he has played for and worked with is impressive. These next choices are important. I think if he keeps all or most of the current Offense staff it sends the wrong message, and if he dumps them all it sends the wrong message. Many (like me) want to see a role for Ty ... I hope for it, but don't really expect it. I'm not sure who he'll want or be able to get ... but there are some who should be gone (WR and RB in particular). If he keeps them all, then we know that KS did NOT turn the reins fully over to Grimes and we shouldn't hope for too much.
I'm hopeful and somewhat optimistic about this hire ... I honestly didn't think we'd be able to get him (I hope he does well and we're not just a short stopping point for him).
