Re: Ty No Longer OC
Wow, I wonder what the back story is on that rant. IMO the firing of Ty detmer is putting a band aid on a hemorrhage, he is a scapegoat. The entire program is in chaos and will not be fixed until Sitake is gone and we get a fresh start. Ty had a bad offense, there is no denying the numbers but I think his offense would have worked if it hadn't been for the bad position coaches he had and the hand tying that his HC did when he would say stupid things in the media.

This. I’m not happy.hawkwing wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2017 12:51 pm Wow. Ty's offense was clearly bad. But he was also the only coach who showed the ability to adapt and change by shifting to a faster paced, more spread-based offense through the year.
It's been clear throughout the year though that Sitake does not like Detmer, because he's not one of his boys.
For him to be the first coach to take a demotion is just another in a long line of bad decisions by Kalani.
Ty should be the last one to be cut loose. Next season’s offense with Ty would be like coasting down hill, compared to the up hill challenges and set backs of this miserable season.
Replacing Ty will be just another setback for now, and a regretful, lost opportunity for later.
And please, not Norm Chow, or any of Kalani’s buddies. Not excited about A Rod, either.

On the other hand, is it too late to trade Sitake for Detmer? In other words, dump Kalani and keep Ty? I had always thought that Kalani’s greatest accomplishment was in getting (or consenting to getting), Ty Detmer. BYU needs Detmer’s expertise going forward.

Re: Ty No Longer OC
Guys, Detmer's 1st game of the season was a near disaster. He isn't a good OC. Am I bummed about that? Yep. For now, he belongs at QB coach.
Now, Sitake is a worse coach than Detmer.

Re: Ty No Longer OC
Is it a given that the new OC will be able to pick the offensive position coaches? That fact that Detmer is staying on as QB coach may mean the answer is no. What good OC will come to BYU get if he can't pick his own staff?

We've been told the new OC will pick his staff, so who is fired and who is retained would be up to him. Supposedly.

Re: Ty No Longer OC
I agree with Stevenson that Detmer was not one of Sitake's guys. I just question that causation. Ty was not Kalani's friends. Ty got fired. Therefore, Ty got fired because he wasn't Kalani's friend.

Re: Ty No Longer OC
Which is a cowardly and very passive aggressive way of firing coaches you don't have the gumption to fire yourself.
I can't fire Ty Detmer, so I'll let the next OC be the one to actually let him go.
I can't fire my family (Mahe), so I'll let the next OC be the one to actually let him go.
I can't fire my former teammates (Cahoon), so I'll let the next OC be the one to actually let him go.

Re: Ty No Longer OC
Given the post about the 10 things wrong at BYU Football right now, and watching what is going on, I am becoming a believer that the post is accurate. I raise that because it is impossible to run Detmer's offense effectively when those 10 things are going on. The team must be intelligent (film sessions), they must be strong and healthy (S&C), it requires a high level of execution (practice time and consistency) ... and so on. The more I am hearing about the "behind-the-scenes" at BYU Football, the more I believe the problem is not, and never was, Ty Detmer ... rather it lies in the "player-coach" mentality and laxity that comes from above.
I had started to believe that Ty may have been in over his head ... but not any more. It was the structure around him. To succeed with his program you need dedication and hard work ... not a good-ol-boy frat-boy mind-set.
Now with what is going on with Pau'u ... sheesh! This program is going the wrong way and they just poured gasoline on the dumpster fire that we've called BYU Football.
It will take years to recover ... or a strong new head coach. I hear Detmer may be looking for a job.
