I'm just waiting for a Polynesian or an otherwise old buddy of Sitake to be announced as the replacement. I have no faith whatsoever with Sitake making the right hiring choice here. Sitake has been making one bad decision after another, and has shown no ability to take any personal responsibility for anything. He's world class at dishing out blame and absolving himself of responsibility.

The only thing about Ty not being OC that I see as a distinct positive is that the new OC is LIKELY (I hope) to can Mahe and Cahoon.

Now, how do we go about getting a new S&C coach? You don't have this many injuries unless the S&C program is wrong ....

Sitake should be gone.

Holmoe should be gone for that matter too.

Sadly, I agree. Now, plenty of our other sports have done well, but these two major ones just have not done well since the move away from the MWC (I'm NOT suggesting going back). Ultimately, this goes back to Holmoe. He's a nice guy and has done some good things. But we are trending the wrong direction in our two major sports.

I dunno, if the new OC is a Sitake buddy and is told to keep all of his other buddies...

This is BYU's biggest win of 2017.

I expect Norm Chow to be the new OC, for Cahoon to be fired, and for Aaron Roderick to be hired to coach the WRs. Ty will likely stay on as QB Coach, unless he wants to forfeit years 3 and 4 of his guaranteed money.

There are more changes that should be made, but likely won't. Mahe, Empey, and Tuiaki specifically.

I am sad with this move, I love Ty and I wanted to see his vision for the offense come to fruition. I think he is the sacrificial lamb for a couple of different reasons.

1- This basically was the perfect storm against the offense. He was down to his 4th string QB, 7th string RB and had 5 TE injured this year. He had some of the worst efforts by a wide receivers group that I have ever seen at BYU since, well 4 years ago when Cahoon was here before. Holliday was a huge loss for us. The OL played pretty well, especially the interior line, the weak spot was the tackles, specifically left tackle.

I don't care what program you are, if you were down to your 4th string QB and 7th string RB in the same year your offense isn't going to be as good as it should be and will be a shell of what it was. Granted BYU's first string QB was having a ton of issues when he was healthy and I don't blame Ty for that. I truly believe that was more on Tanner really not grasping the offense. His receivers didn't help at all but Tanner was very tentative with his decision making and was late most of the time on his throws.

I am in no way being a Ty apologist because i think there were a lot of mistakes on his part with the play calling, such as, why not run more against UMass and ECU when they sucked at stopping the run, but he did adapt quite a bit through the year to the personnel he had.

2- I think this point makes a lot of sense.
Kalani doesn't want to fire his buddies so what does he do? He relieves Ty of his position and then says the new OC will have complete control on who he wants to be on the staff. If the new OC puts in his own staff then Kalani can say his hands were tied if his buddies are let go. This will only work though if the new OC isn't one of Kalani's buddies. If that happens then Tom Holmoe needs to go.

Funny how just last week there was post saying "fire everyone involved with byu football this year". But now that a move has been made everyone is upset. I love Ty Detmer as much as anyone, I have a Detmer shrine in my home office. Most of my personal passwords involve Detmer in someway. My previous dogs name was Detmer. He's is the reason I feel in love with byu football as a 10 year old. But the fact of the matter is his offense wasn't working and a change needed to be made. Everyone can say he was down to his 4th string qb, his 7th string running back but the 1st game of the year with a healthy roster his offense mustard a massive 20 points against a BAD 0-11 fcs Portland St.

There has been plenty complaining about the offense over the last 2 years. No one wanted to see Ty fail. But he failed and now is the chance for a new start and hopefully a chance to see an offense that's funner to watch then paint dry.

There should be plenty of qualified candidates let's hope this administration gets it right and hires the right one. Although as history has proven no matter who they hire there will be those who will complain and say Kalani and Holmoe have no idea what they are doing fire them all blah blah blah.
