Yeah, unfortunately breaking press and catching the ball are a pretty important part of being a receiver It doesn't matter how fast you are if you can't catch.

Re: SJSU Game thread
exactly. get someone like holiday back and I'd bet there would be a lot more breaking press and caught passes in traffic. Seems like coaching is the problem here. Not the receivers.Brayden Green wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2017 1:57 pmYeah, unfortunately breaking press and catching the ball are a pretty important part of being a receiver It doesn't matter how fast you are if you can't catch.

I liked Holiday, and I think he did a great job with his receivers (though they also did have drops and problems with breaking press), but I'm not sure you can put all that on coaching exactly.BroncoBot wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2017 2:01 pmexactly. get someone like holiday back and I'd bet there would be a lot more breaking press and caught passes in traffic. Cahoon did great with Cody Hoffman. It's the talent level. I mean, for how fast these guys are, you'd think a lot more schools would have come calling. But the fact is, some people can't be taught to catch. We have track stars with cinderblocks for hands. I hope they will learn. There is only so much that a coach can do to teach someone to catch.

Re: SJSU Game thread
This is interesting ... two turnovers and the Cougs end up with 1 FG? The play calling wasn't bad, and that TERRIBLE offensive PI call really hurt

I LOVE seeing players play with passion like that hit showed. It is a rare thing to see a hit that LITERALLY knocks the ball carrier horizontally airborn ... a thing of beauty!

El Bakri with a great run! Here's a guy (and a position) that has been under-utilized this season! (Meaning not only has El Bakri been under-utilized, but the fullback position in general ... they have running plays for him, and passing plays designed to go to the FB ... should use the FB more)

Re: SJSU Game thread
What a job by Mangum getting that last play off, then extending the play and hitting the receiver! (How do you drop a pass when you get 2 hands on it like that? ... unless you have lineman hands )

Overall, a lot of positives from that first half. El Bakiri, Tanner, KJ Hall, DBs, etc. Some ugly drops, and Almond kicking FGs too though.

OK. I'm with ya now. At least Simon. 2 drops that result in an int and 3 point for sjsu and a dropped TD. (he did have a great TD catch though)
