Listen to Jake Kuresea, he admits that he did not like Bronco Mendenhall, and that it took him a few years after he graduated to recognize what he had given him and now loves him.

Ken Schmidt, former Lavell assistant/coordinator also coached at Ricks. I remember when the dean of students came to him and told him there were some players who may have violated the HC. He asked the dean of they did it, the answer was yes. The next practice 20-30 players were asked to turn in their uniforms, and the names/ numbers removed from all rosters and faces literally blacked out of team pictures. At least 11 of those kicked out were starters.

Ricks won the national championship that year.

At least Tolutau is resourceful:
Tolutau was a passenger and was found holding a frisbee containing marijuana. He told the deputy that the pot was in a frisbee because he didn’t have a baggie.

Football players (or athletes in general) get preferential treatment at a lot universities. If you think that doesn't occur at BYU, to some extent, then you're kidding yourself. As someone who left the church while living in BYU housing, I had the opportunity to see both sides of students there. You'd probably be shocked at some of the stuff that students do on the down low.

Pretty easy to cave to peer pressure at that age. Makes me wonder how many are participating in it.
Or he lost his faith while on his mission and hasn't figured out how to tell people. He wouldn't be the first person to have that happen.

Or, like a lot of "new age" millennial Mormons I met while living in BYU housing, he doesn't believe pot is a sin/should be against the Honor Code.

Before anybody jumps down my throat, I would agree that he should be punished, regardless if he thinks x, y, or z shouldn't be illegal/against the Honor Code.

I wouldn't be shocked at all and I was there in the early 90's. BYU students are just like everyone else in any other university. You can find what you want to find anywhere. I didn't leave the church over it though.

Losing games won't cost Kalani his job this season.

Losing games and having a bevy of honor code violations could. The honor code violations are a sign to the administration that Kalani isn't serious about the honor code because his team doesn't seem to be taking it seriously.

This is the one thing Kalani could do to lose his job after this season.

That is a very good answer frdbtr. There are a lot of reasons to leave but I haven't left either.

Hey I remember Schmidt and winning the championship. I was not aware of this story. Could he be talked out of retirement? :)

I didn't leave the church over that either.

Anyway, enough of that. I just wanted to share my experiences and hopefully offer a potential reason why this is happening.
