When the question is asked who the "best QB" is, that has to imply who is most productive, right?
The answer is easy, though it is true the data is insufficient on Hoge. But just like the whole team played better and rallied around Riley Nelson, i think the team rallied around Beau. Because they beleive. They know, that he is more productive. It may not be Tanners fault the WRs have mostly sucked eggs, it is his fault for bad and slow reads and throws that a Jr 4* player should make.
But the fundamental and unarguable difference, like Taysom, is that he can move the chains and create a flow. And because the players have more confidence (yes, im assuming based on one half of football ad scoreboard) they play harder and more together. There was unarguably more offensive flow and identity in that half vs USU.
Detmer himself had to modify his "pro-style" offense to suit the QB talent and assists and maybe even the Anae spread O recruits (if that is true as some claim--i dont) and so altogether, Beau is THE BEST QB on this team. Unfortunately it remains to be seen whether he is even coming back.
Detmer should get a clue and modernize or it will simply take too long to train up the players to run it.
On a side note, didnt Austin Kafentsis (sp) throw the ball in HS? Break school records? HELLO! How hard is he to defend when no Defense believes he is actually a threat to throw the ball??? Ugh! IF Critchlow cant figure out the O (but neither can Wrs apparently) then use an athlete who is nowhere close to Taysom but resembles his style and skills and lets move forward. But maybe the coaches have evaluated it and he has a whimsy arm. Who knows. But the more incompetent this O looks the more perceptions and reality become that Ty is incompetent and not the NFL master he was made out to be.
