Lost a 4* linebacker and much needed future star to Utah.

.Mika Tafua, a consensus 4-star linebacker and one of the top recruits of BYU’s 2015 class, looks like he will be heading to Utah. Tafua returned from his LDS mission in late September

To be fair to Kalani, the kid was a Bronco commit. Don't know how much that influenced his decision

To be fair? Don't you mean there is a "slim possibility" that it was related to being Broncos recruit? Tafua. Sitake. Tafua. Sitake. Hmmm....BYU is quickly going from Poly central to Poly graveyard. The good ship Poly is taking on a lot of water. What remains to be seen as whether the ship will go down or not.

I imagine he wanted to play for a defensive minded coach that could get him to the NFL.

Can you blame a talented athlete for wanting to play for a team that can win games, get him prime time recognition, and a legit shot at the NFL?
How about playing for a team (Utah) that had more athletes drafted in 2017 than USC, Ohio St, UCLA, Wisconsin, Texas, A&M, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, or Florida St, etc, etc.
The choice is obvious.

BYU can afford to lose the occasional LB. What we can't afford is losing a talented kid who would make a great DE.

Didn't the defensive scheme change from what Bronco's defense ran? That could factor into this him being a LB and all.

1+1+1=3.......until 3 more Who are very likely at this moment, already considering to Decommit from BYU. They are looking for a sign. Some sign of hope that these coaches can turn it around.
Unfortunately, after another embarrassing loss tomorrow, with a washed up quarterback that cant get it done and hasn't been able to get it done all year; but who the coaches are resting their hopes and jobs on; only to bring in the new guy after the loss looks eminent– – And new guys always struggle – – and the coaches look all the more incompetent and three more Decommit. Then 3+ 3 looks ALOT more perilous.
To shrug our shoulders and suggest BYU can afford to lose a four-star commit at this point, in all due respect to a long time poster, is like suggesting the titanic could never go down. There's one more game and three more decommits and all BYU will have left are ragamuffin two star recruits. And TH will be left with no recourse but to scrap a bunch of assistant coaches in a desperate move to create that SIGN, small as it may be, to recruits and their parents want more than just the BYU experience and more than the Ohana love that Kalani brings. It takes a lot of love and loyalty to stand by the captain as he goes down with the ship. New recruits and their parents don't have near that love or loyalty even if they have poly blood or even very blue blood.
Things aren't like they used to be. It's a new day and age with social media, recruiting, and this millennial generation that lack a fair amount of mental discipline and loyalty.

Re: Add Mika Tafua to list of recruits going to Utah
Like I wrote, people, including recruits and parents, fans and posters, will be searching for some plausible sign, unlikely as they may be, to hang on and stay on the good ship Kalani.
-If it was about bronco, why didn't he go to UVA?
-if it was about scheme, Utah runs a 4-3 as well as BYU...err....much better than BYU, so it ain't scheme he's jumping to.
Plain and simple, Kalani brought a very thin favorable margin as a great recruiter (at Utah,anyway--with all its Pac12 mantra and "always in the hunt for a TITLE and P5 playoff) and that thin margin at BYU is fading very fast.
And don't think that Kryle, as much as he loves Kalani, doesn't have the loud siron song speakers blaring and the rescue buoys getting thrown often and accurately to pick off all the top recruits he can to send BYU into the dark ages. It's happening folks. Try not to bury your heads too deep in the Enron sand.
Yes, Go Cougs!
May the Magic of Austin Collie ever be in your favor.
May I be proved wrong of my skeptical, almost heretical, doubting Thomas ways! And may the stars align and the well-earned good-ship Kalani karma cash in for a most improbable victory.
May tomorrow end this nightmare season one way or if necessary, another!
The End......
