Spring Game

Post by EM_Puma »

I don't know how many attended or watched on BYUTV, but I came away feeling a little bit more positive about the 2017 season that I had at the end of the 2016.

Freshman Matt Bushman looked promising and though we saw little, I liked what I saw of QB Kody Wilstead, as far as future prospects. We've got a lot of QBs in Provo.

I'd like to hear others impressions.

Matt Bushman is my boy. He looks absolutely incredible and will be the next household name.

Mangum was disappointing to say the least.

Hoge looks like he's grown into a D1 backup QB and I'm not as worried about depth by having him there.

Kody Wilstead looks like he could become a very good QB in the future.

The linebacking corps looks great.

Another video. I'm not sure which one has the more annoying music between the 2 posted so far.

Any predictions on how many games into the season before calls for Tanner to be benched?

Well, is it too early to start now? Based soley on that spring game Tanner was wasn't even the second best QB out there. I knew Hoge had some running ability but I was impressed by his throwing as well.

Now, I want Tanner to succeed and really hope he has a stellar season, but if he is struggling we don't keep him in just because.

On another note, there were several (and by that I mean a lot) dropped balls by both WRs and RBs. Not good for whoever is QB.

Once again; It's all about the receivers and offensive line. Mangum should be the guy and it isn't even close. If the receivers keep dropping balls that hit them in the hands it won't matter who is throwing the ball to them.

I guess we all see things differently. Wilstead missed a wide open pass badly. I thought Hoge missed some easy passes to backs. Probably the most accurate was Detmer. But who are we kidding? Mangum is a gamer, and we will be lucky to have him. And I am super excited about Bushman. He has great hands. The first intermediate pass to the middle that I can remember, he had to reach back high against his momentum and made a nice grab.
