Interesting development. I would love to see something similar happen for 2017.

Move Boise St. home game to November and Fresno St. to late August (FSU plays at Hawaii in '17, which means they could move a game to Week 0 per the new Hawaii exemption rules). Add a home game (FCS payday?) in early October.

That would spread out the six MWC games a little better and improve the November schedule nicely:

2017 -
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
at Fresno St.(moved from Nov. 4)
LSU (In Houston)
Utah
Wisconsin
BYE
at Utah St. (General Conference weekend)

OCTOBER
FCS?
at Mississippi St.
at ECU
San Jose St.

NOVEMBER
*Boise St. (moved from Oct. 7)
at UNLV
UMass
at Hawaii

Love the Utah game at the end of the season! How did they pull that off with the PAC-12 schedule?

Hope that Hawaii game gets moved to August 25.

Would be great to have an open date before the Utah game though a home game against NMSt is just about that.

Hawaii likely lands on either 10/13 or 10/20 with the other date being a bye. We can rule out 9/22 (where McNeese State is likely to stay) because Hawaii already has another game that week.

Well, I really hope that Hawaii gets moved to another year and BYU picks up a H-H with UCLA, but Hawaii can choose to play an away game week 0 if they choose. They're doing it this year @UMass.

I would also like to see the NIU game moved to 10/20 and the FCS game 10/13

That gets my vote - if no new PAC game

SAT, 8/25 Hawaii
SAT, 9/1 @ Arizona
SAT, 9/8 California
SAT, 9/15 @ Wisconsin
SAT, 9/22
SAT, 9/29 @ Washington
FRI, 10/5 Utah State
SAT, 10/13 FCS (MCNeese St.)
SAT, 10/20 Northern Illinois

SAT, 10/27
SAT, 11/3 @ Boise State
SAT, 11/10 @ UMass
SAT, 11/17 NMSU
SAT, 11/24 @ Utah

That allows BYU to incorporate two BYE weeks, each before tough road games. I also think it makes the poor home slate less obvious and more palatable - 2 decent home games in August and September, Utah St. and NIU in October - and then Boise St. and Utah to make November exciting (even if they are road games).

*EDIT - I believe this illustrates the value of Hawaii on the schedule. In 2017, we were able to use the Hawaii exemption to get not only a 13th game, but also move the Portland St. game to Week 0 - late August.

In 2018, if we could get Hawaii to move the game to Week 0, that again gives BYU a less-difficult game to warm-up before the P5 gauntlet...and also create advantageous BYE weeks. Get 'er done, Tommy!

If Hawaii were an annual game, BYU could look to play a Week 0 game every year, with Hawaii as the late-August home opener every other year.
