Re: 2016 BYU Coaching Staff
My Initial thought was fire them all. But then I came back to reality and remembered this is good ole cheap handcuff themselves in every possible way BYU. We all know Kalani, Ed Lamb and Ty Detmer are not going anywhere. Steve Clark, Steve Kafusi, Mike Empy, Jenaro Gilford, Russell, Tevita and the GA`s should be back.Mars wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2017 10:55 amWho on this list deserves to keep their jobs?Fido wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2015 2:12 am STAFF COMPLETE

The 3 I think should be fired are..
Ben Cahoon. Can anyone think of a group with a worst season? Drope after drope all year long. Weak routes and lack of getting separation especially when the corner is jamming them has been the MO all season long. Cahoon has proven to not be a good coach.
Reno Mahe. The running back group has been dysfunctional and unimpressive this year. The lack of coaching experience I think caught up to Reno this year. 19 year olds need a coach not a BFF.
Nu'u Tafisi. I will admit I know nothing about him or exactly what he does. But there is a lot of chatter about him from people who do know so I am just going with them on this one.
Ilaisa Tuiaki. I am not sure he should be fired but demoted absolutely. Kalani it's time you take the defense over. Kafusi needs to go back to the Dline and Tuiaki needs to go back to the linbackers. That worked last year what they did this year did not.

Re: 2016 BYU Coaching Staff
The only one of those 4 that most likely will be fired is Cahoon. The S&C coach and Tuiaki are best friends with Sitake and will not be fired. Sitake should not take over the defense, Ed Lamb should. Sitake wouldn't be any better than Tuiaki.a1247 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2017 5:28 pmMy Initial thought was fire them all. I thought about Ed also. Ultimately I'm really really hoping for Gary Anderson.frdbtr wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2017 8:48 amThe only one of those 4 that most likely will be fired is Cahoon. Re: 2016 BYU Coaching Staff
Would KS be willing to step-down to coordinator role? Would he be willing to cut ties with tuiaki? I never would have let KS assemble this staff if I'm Holmoe. Too much "family". Not enough experience. But then, Holmoes coaching days werent the prettiest.

Re: 2016 BYU Coaching Staff
It's obvious things are headed the wrong way and drastic change is needed. It's hard for me to know what that should look like, but if Sitake presses forward with the status quo, he needs to be let go. If Holmoe tries to do that, intervention is needed there as well.

Re: 2016 BYU Coaching Staff
I think Sitake and Detmer are safe for now. They'll get one more year to perform. I also don't think Sitake will let Tuiaki go. Is what it is. BUT, I'd like to see Kaufusi move back to dline - which would move Tuiaki back to linebackers.
And, isn't the 2018 season where the NCAA will allow an additional coach? A couple of realistic moves:
- Add Jason Beck as quarterbacks coach. He and Mangum had a great rapport and productive results in 2015. Not sure BYU will offer enough to lure him away from Virginia, but I'd try. This move helps to support Detmer and the offense, where we need it most.
- Let go of Cahoon and bring in Roderick as receivers coach. He's a proven P5 receivers coach and a good recruiter. And, he's available.
Nothing earth-shattering, but realistic moves that would help improve the team.
