Re: The Coaching Situation
Oh, and my guess for this off-season, as of right now (and I have no real clue what will happen):
Weber "retires".
Reynolds retires.
Tidwell retires.
Omer "retires".
Kelly Poppinga takes a job in the NFL.
*Bronco Mendenhall takes over the Special Teams.
*Nick Howell is promoted to DC under the tutelage of Bronco, in charge of supervising the new LB/DB coaches (assuming that DeWayne Walker stays as head coach at NMSU and Kalani Sitake is not interested).
*Brandon Doman is promoted to Assistant Head Coach.
*Ben Cahoon is given TE duties as well as the WRs (hopefully Andrew George can keep working with the TEs as well, and Chad Lewis remains in the general athletic department for now).
*Max Hall (GA) is officially hired as the new QB Coach. He tells us in an interview that Brian Johnson is classless.
*Micah Alba is hired from Fresno State as the new DBs Coach.
*Justin Ena is hired from SUU to take over the new combined Inside/Outside Linebackers coaching position.
*Jeff Grimes (if let go at Auburn) is re-hired as the new OL Coach. Otherwise, Scott Brumfield or Garett Tujague is hired.
*Ty Detmer is contacted by Tom Holmoe to assist Chad Lewis/Robbie Boscoe with school fundraising efforts.
*Andy Reid is brought in by the athletic department as an expert football consultant.
A healthy Taysom Hill heads into his sophomore season as the starter at QB in game 1.

Re: The Coaching Situation
I thought I heard Wintrich was going to Virginia with Mendenhall. And I don't see either Sitake or Anderson leaving their Pac12 coordinator jobs for our coordinator job.

I had "heard' that too ... but after looking for it, I couldn't find anything official. He may stay!Fido wrote:I thought I heard Wintrich was going to Virginia with Mendenhall. And I don't see either Sitake or Anderson leaving their Pac12 coordinator jobs for our coordinator job.
The thing I like about this updated thread (and I do see some of the names as very unlikely, others as real possibilities), is that it gets me thinking that, once we have a HC in place, the rest of the pool gets fairly deep with decent/good coaching talent.
Whoever it is ... they have their work cut out for them! Big year is coming fast!

Re: The Coaching Situation
I'll agree. The HC pool is very shallow (I would take the guy leaving over any of the ones on the list), but the assistant pool is really quite deep.
If Kalani gets the job, there's a name for DC no one is talking about, that I think would a real shock, but a very high probability, is Morgan Scalley. I know, he hates us. But he was passed over for the DC job at Utah that everyone thought he'd get.

Re: The Coaching Situation
Joe Dupaix & Shawn Nua are both at Navy and could easily follow K Lolo if he takes the job.
