pre-season rankings?

So I think there are advantages to being underestimated in pre-season rankings. That said, I'm surprised that the rational for ranking Utah so high is that they almost went to the PAC 12 championship game and this year they will be even better. If I recall, the team that did go to that game sucked so bad that they fired the coach and had to get a exemption to go to a bowl game. The only difference that I can see this year is that they may again "almost go to the PAC 12 championship game". That is if they have a half way decent year. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they wont beat USC.

Also, using these journalist's logic wouldn't you say that BYU was ranked 25 last year and this year they should be "even better"?

OK, so these pre-season rankings are worthless, but may help BYU out if they can start beating all of their "over ranked" opponents. There is a great opportunity there.
