Re: Article: Money is Killing BYU Football

I think it's a valid point that BYU doesn't have the opportunity to grow in the early season, with some breathing room for mistakes. Would this team be 1-5 if we had played SJSU instead of Utah or Wisconsin? Also, an extremely valid point that interest in BYU's season tanks drastically after a coupl...

Re: Critchlow shows coaches have no plan!!

I am thrilled that Critchlow got some snaps against Boise St. Critchlow is the #2 guy on the QB depth chart right now. If Mangum goes down or continues to struggle with health or decision-making, the #2 guy needs to be ready to go! Beau Hoge was not on the field for warm-ups and unable to go with mu...

Re: Pro Style Offense Questions

Despite that horrible scene on the field this year, I continue to believe that BYU's best potential to be a *real* contender is to play pro style, ball control offense. We can recruit offensive linemen and solid running backs and tight ends, solid pocket quarterbacks, and good-enough receivers. We c...

Re: Pro Style Offense Questions

I can see a few of those teams. Others (and I am not saying they're not pro-style) I just can't remember them using TEs as much. On the other hand, Clemson last year had a TE they used a lot, though DeShaun Watson's athleticism was used more in a spread than pro-style offense. We have recently play...

Re: Highlight of my concern about the offense

Hard to sugar coast those stats.

I am anxious to see how we perform at Utah St. this weekend. If the offense doesn't score at least 20 points, it is going to be a long year and I don't see us reaching a bowl.

Re: Is Utah State a must win?

Yes. A loss will hurt BYU and benefit USU with in-state recruits. Fan interest, attendance, revenue, and ratings will tank. Beat USU and then Boise St. and there is renewed life for this season. Lose to USU and continue on a 4-game losing streak and bowl eligibility becomes a major question mark.

Re: What' an endzone?

Switch the BYU and Ewete kickers and BYU wins the game 17-13.

I truly don't understand how the Ewetes consistently find such excellent kickers - and, why BYU isn't able to find adequate kickers. Make a 28-yard field goal for crying out loud!

Re: Scheduling and the Boise St model

I posit that Boise St. followed the "BYU model" for scheduling - from the '80's and '90's. Play one or two "power" programs in the OOC and then win the WAC. Then, you have a nice and shiny win-loss record, a nice ranking, get a quality bowl opponent and make a name for yourself on the national stage...

Re: Let's just get this out of the way

I actually like independence. Way better opponents than the MWC alternative. Great games in great venues. The ultimate reward for a successful MWC championship season is the hope for a chance to play someone like LSU, Wisconsin, Michigan St., or USC in a big bowl game. That's IF you win the conferen...
