What I want to know is what practice, if any, he'll be able to take part in before August 30 (1st day of classes). Mars mentioned open workouts, which sounds reasonable, as they're not officially run by the University, but at the same time, if he is in no way currently affiliated with the University either, is he allowed to participate / use University facilities? I mean, I don't technically know, but I doubt I'D be able to show up to open workouts either... I realize that new and transfer student athletes, even those who aren't taking summer classes, are still permitted to participate in all open workouts and camp, but their situation is different in that they're accepted students in good standing. Harvey currently isn't a student of any standing and there's been no decision whether he will be again...
I assumed that skeleton drills on the practice fields are unsupervised, and that Unga could participate in those at will. I further assumed that he kept his BYU student ID, and his PE shorts and BYU workout shirt, and that's what they use for admittance into the student athlete building. And the guys who may be in charge of the gym, I doubt would want to keep Harvey out. They probably all know him, recognize him, and want him to be around there as much as possible, without breaking any NCAA rules of course.

If Unga is cleared to enroll back at BYU for the Falll, he starts game 1. If he is not cleared for the Fall, he does not. And it really is that simple. Bronco will not sit him just because.
I was kind of expecting Bronco to sit him the first two games, if he comes back, "to get back into shape". Quiet discipline without open suspension. But I'm just guessing about that.

By then the rest of the story will likely have come out, and it couldn't hurt Harvey to miss the speculation on opening day.

Given the fact that Harvey has yet to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, I expect him to be reinstated for game 1 and he will start. Logic says he was give some assurances that if he meets certain requirements, he can get that ecclesiastical endorsement. Otherwise, his name is already in the Supp Draft.

Agreed, but I'd say that is generally a given. If he's eligible, he'll start game 1. I concur that Bronco wouldn't keep him on the bench for being at fewer practices when he's the most talented player to have been through three years of practices already.

Last query is whether student status for Fall semester is only active starting on day 1, or if it is or can be active after the last day of Summer term. May not seem like a huge difference, but if for some reason, fall semester eligibility was granted for the entire time following Summer term, that could put Harvey in practice/camp Monday, August 16th, or two full weeks before the first day of fall class, thanks to Womens' Conference and Education Week. I don't know the exact date of the start of camp, but I know it's not much earlier than that.

Any inside info on what BYU policies / NCAA rules would be in play for either of these questions?

I don't see what more he could have done by this point. I would put the odds at "better than not" that he plays at some point in 2010.
I can think of a few unnamed things (whatver they were) that he shouldn't have done...

So...anyone worried whether or not the women's basketball team will be down a player this year? Maybe it's the wrong thread but...no.one. seems. concerned.
Based on attendance at their one home NIT game, I'd say about 300 people care, none of whom visit this board.

Okay, so here's a pertinent question NOT relating to anyone's moral or ecclesiastic standing:

If a veteran player has withdrawn from school for summer semester, is he allowed to practice with the team before the fall semester officially starts???

If Harvey can't practice before August 30 (and I have no idea if that's the case or not), Harvey would have exactly 5 practices before the first game. While he would be the most experienced returning player, I wonder if that wouldn't affect team chemistry at least slightly, to say nothing of giving Harvey time to get to know the styles/tendencies of all of the new players, not the least of which being the one who'll hand him the ball. I have no doubts Harvey would be able to catch up quickly, but I'm willing to bet it's his new team mates getting used to his presence as much as him getting used to theirs. Blocking schemes, for example, will change with or without him, both for his position and by his position. And I think it's VERY safe to say that playcalling will be VASTLY different with or without him.

Any insights on when Harvey would be able to start practice?
I think this is a great question. Given that we had some of the lowest levels of NFL talent in the last draft in the top 25, I think it's safe to say that The Bronco breeds team chemistry and that is a crucial element of our success.

Even if Nelson is our qb next year, how much Chemistry does he already have with Unga? If it's Heaps, the answer is 0 but Unga will be coming in to a team that has already developed an identity and a rapport without him using very competent RBs. Tonga came back to almost the same team and same QB and they just plugged him back in but, I think this team will be different. I wouldn't be shocked to see Bronco sit Unga for a game or two to give him more practices under his belt since fumbled handoffs and missed assignments dont' help NOBODY.
