Corrected. But they are still Mountain West mid-majors and cupcakes for any program that thinks of itself as a P5 level program..
Post 2000 Boise State has consistently performed at levels that are at least as good as BYU. Even this year, they are 9-2 and currently ranked. If Boise State is a cup cake, then we should have been called a cupcake program for all these years as well. And if we're a cupcake program, why should we be expected to beat anyone?

This was the first win this season by UMass against an FBS team. Its other wins were against FCS schools.
Playing 6 Mountain West schools (Fresno State is the only MW opponent with a winning record), 0-11 FCS Portland State, 3-8 East Carolina and 4-7 UMass (3 wins over FCS schools) is hardly a tough schedule.

Wisconsin is a great team, Miss State and LSU are very good and Utah is a middle of the road P5 team. The rest are cupcakes.
Did you forget about Boise State and Utah State? They both have winning records.

Boise State considered a "cupcake"? Okay, I guess we disagree.
Boise state may not be a cupcake but we had them at home this year and with competent coaching could have won the game, kind of like the last few times we played them at home with Bronco as coach.

BUT, that back-half of the schedule...I expected 5-1 (saw pre-season that ECU was a tough, cross-country trap game)...nothing worse than 4-2 would have been forgivable. But, we run the risk of finishing 2-4 against that back half. Yuck!
10.

points.

against.

3-and-7.

UMass.

And the back half of the schedule normalized the difficulty compared to other teams.
