But just like the whole team played better and rallied around Riley Nelson, i think the team rallied around Beau. Because they beleive. They know, that he is more productive. It may not be Tanners fault the WRs have mostly sucked eggs, it is his fault for bad and slow reads and throws that a Jr 4* player should make.
But the fundamental and unarguable difference, like Taysom, is that he can move the chains and create a flow. And because the players have more confidence (yes, im assuming based on one half of football ad scoreboard) they play harder and more together. There was unarguably more offensive flow and identity in that half vs USU.
Detmer himself had to modify his "pro-style" offense to suit the QB talent and assists and maybe even the Anae spread O recruits (if that is true as some claim--i dont) and so altogether, Beau is THE BEST QB on this team. Unfortunately it remains to be seen whether he is even coming back.
Detmer should get a clue and modernize or it will simply take too long to train up the players to run it.
On a side note, didnt Austin Kafentsis (sp) throw the ball in HS? Break school records? HELLO! How hard is he to defend when no Defense believes he is actually a threat to throw the ball??? Ugh! IF Critchlow cant figure out the O (but neither can Wrs apparently) then use an athlete who is nowhere close to Taysom but resembles his style and skills and lets move forward. But maybe the coaches have evaluated it and he has a whimsy arm. Who knows. But the more incompetent this O looks the more perceptions and reality become that Ty is incompetent and not the NFL master he was made out to be.

I sit here wondering how the Tanner Mangum of 2 years ago is completely gone. Is it coaching? Is it scheme? The drop off in productivity there has been nuts.
I think of three things:

1) How good Taysom looked under Anae/Ja. Beck in the Nebraska game before he got hobbled.
2) How mediocre Taysom looked in 2016 under Detmer.
3) How good Taysom looking in Green Bay's preseason under McCarthy.

Granted, Tanner never looked as good as Taysom looked in that first half against Nebraska, but I think Detmer has not delivered much in the way of QB play.

I think Hoge is next up, then Critchlow. Not sure what Tanner needs to succeed. Better line would help. Better receivers would help. Better fire to get nasty out on the gridiron would definitely help.

Hoge was seen and played. Threw better. Offense production much better. Scheme to players better. No contest really. Tanner is Heaps worse.
Problem with this is 2 years ago we saw Tanner play pretty well against decent competition. I can't decide if Tanner is the problem or not. He does not look like the QB we saw 2 years ago.
Hoge had a couple good drives against USU, who wasn't the best team we had played to that point. I'm undecided there as well, not enough of a sample size against good teams. His legs definitely don't hurt his case though.

Last year this poll would have been overwhelmingly "Tanner Mangum". This year, everyone has abandoned that ship and has started stumping for anyone that hasn't played. I'd guarantee that if Koy Detmer hadn't played at USU or any other time this season, that a lot of people would be calling for him to start.

For next year: Hoge (if he's still playing) or Wilstead or Critchlow, then Mangum.
Healthy Hoge gets nod over others bc he can scramble/run in an offense that is often pathetic and impotent...like last except for Hill/Jamaal
